According to recent survey by Tire Business magazine, faulty repairs caused almost 50% or tire failures. Faulty repairs are also one of the major reasons for casing rejection during the retread process. Even though this represents a huge expense for the transportation industry, tire repair specifications are often overlooked when fleets design their tire maintenance programs and cost fleets tons of money.
At Dorsey Tire, we always use the most current repair methods outlined by the Tire Industry Association. According to the TIA, the proper method of repairing penetrations less than 3/8" in diameter is the 2 piece 'plug' and 'patch' repair system. The 'plug' portion stops moisture from entering the belt package of the casing which if not done, will cause the belts to corrode and separate. The 'patch' portion of the repair seals the hole so the tire can hold air again. This repair process is more time consuming due to the fact that the tire must be dismounted from the wheel assembly but Dorsey Tire Company’s goal is to save fleets money by reducing their downtime and optimizing the retread-ability of our customers casings.
Injuries larger than 3/8" diameter or any penetrations to the shoulder/sidewall area cannot be repaired by our service departments, as they require a 'section repair' performed by one of our Bandag certified retread facilities.
All Repairs are performed using quality products made by Rema Tip Top.
